A recruiter emailed me to set up a phone interview a few days in advance. During the interview, she seemed very unenthusiastic and underprepared. In fact, I got the impression that she had barely even looked at my resume prior to calling. The nail in the coffin, so to speak, was when she asked about salary expectations. I told her what the market rate was for someone with my qualifications, according to my university's career services department. She then implied that I was asking too much and told me that the position paid $20k/yr less than what I was asking. I found it quite unprofessional that an HR representative was so out of touch with the job market when I could have spent that time and effort applying elsewhere. The whole experience certainly left a poor impression with me.
