      FT Meat Cutter Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Central Market (Austin, TX) in Sep 2017

      Interview

After applying online, I was contacted the following day by the HR Coordinator for the particular store I applied at. We set up a scheduled time for a group interview, which they host a few times each week. During the group interview, we introduced ourselves, and participated in several activities as several Department Heads sat and took notes. Don't be too nervous, they weren't just sitting there silently judging everyone. In fact, they were laughing, joking, and engaging the group! Some of the activities included: Exercising creative ability by artistically creating a resume, identifying 12 products carried in store, and acting out customer/partner problem solving scenarios with one of the other job applicants. The group interview, overall, was a very positive experience. It will definitely be a challenge for more introverted people (like myself), however, each activity will force you out of your shell and make you feel a lot more comfortable. The group interview lasted about 2 hours, and it stuck with the traditional group interview defin. Following the group interview (about 12-24 hours), I got a call from the Perishables Director that I was selected for a more traditional one-on-one interview. You will more than likely be in a room with your potential respective Department Head as well as your more direct Team Leader. Together, they will ask you traditional retail questions off of a form, then will get to their own questions and conversations. During my interview, I was asked things like: my relevant previous and current work experience, why I want the job, what my own definition of customer service is, specific questions regarding what sorts of skills I possess and use on a daily basis, etc. The one-on-one interview again, was a very positive experience. The Department Head and the Team Lead were both very friendly and took the whole process very seriously. Following the one-on-one interview, they will either call or email you to let you know if you were selected or not. It stopped here for me, as I was notified via email that I was NOT selected for the position. The entire process took about two weeks, but that's only due to my work schedule at my current job. The interview process for Central Market is fun and optimistic, but they don't mess around: They're direct and they know what kind of talent they're looking for! It will take a little bit of time, but if you're patient, it will be worth your while! It felt like a real interview, but at the same time, it also felt like I was just hanging out with a bunch of fellow retail nerds. Even if you don't get the job, it's still great experience to gain as far as non-traditional interview processes go! Even though I wasn't selected for the position that I applied for, it's fine! I will be trying again at another location soon!! My advice is, just go for it! As long as you go in with an open mind, you won't regret any of it!
