In speaking initially with the recruiter, hiring manager and the Director (that the hiring manager reported to) o f the department, the experience was both professional and positive in nature. This was a good reflection of the company, similar to the high quality of service Chewy is known for. The recruiter then advised that they wished to add one more interview, as (another) Director within the company has been trying to become involved in the process. The experience then turned into something quite different than my first several interactions.
This Director was late to the interview, which can happen beyond your control and in itself, isn’t a big deal, but then stated aloud “let’s see what we’re doing here” and “what position were you applying for?” I have never interacted with a Director where they were not only unprepared, but seemingly (tone, verbiage) uninterested in the process of interviewing, and I was taken aback. The questions were hurriedly posed to myself, and towards the end, I was flippantly asked what “jokers” I had already interviewed with. At this point, as the Director had even laughed at a question of company culture I posed, “because it was always asked” I was not in a humorous mood.
My advice to Chewy talent/recruitment is to ensure that any company representative engaged in the process, be wholeheartedly invested in mirroring the company’s stellar reputation for professionalism.
