      Sales Associate Interview

      Mar 18, 2009
      Anonymous employee
      Greenwood, IN
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Chico's FAS (Greenwood, IN) in Apr 2008

      Interview

About a week after turning in my application, I was called to come in for an interview. There were several parts to this interview. First, we discussed my previous employment history; although I did not have previous retail experience, I did not feel as if my chances were mitigated because the interviewer was quite friendly most of the time. After this, she gave a hypothetical scenario and asked me to give a real example of the scenario based on previous experiences. For example, one question she asked regarded how people worked in groups. I gave an example of how I handled a group conflict. There were several questions like these. The next phase consisted of arranging an outfit and attempting to sell it to her. I was to review the pieces of clothing and explain how beneficial they were to own. After the selling stage, she told me that she would set up a second meeting to meet with the manager of the store. After that, she asked if I had any questions. I asked about the number of applicants and the probability of getting the job. She replied that since most applicants did not get an interview, my likelihood of obtaining the job was fairly high. I also asked about the salary, but the manage rather brusquely replied that it was a good starting rate. Thus ended the first interview; it lasted about an hour. About three days later, I went in to the second interview, which did not differ much from the first. I met with the manager of the store instead of the assistant manager like at the first interview. Frankly, the second interview was rather redundant since I was asked most of the same questions. The second interview was much shorter, probably lasting about twenty minutes. Almost a week later I received a message on the answering machine that I got the job and that they would set up a time when I could come in to start training. As to culture, unfortunately I was not able to see how employees were treated since the interview took place in the back room. I never felt uncomfortable though, like I did not belong. Were I to go back in time, I would have spent more time asking about culture, why the position I was applying for was open, etc.
