The initial HR screening was wonderful and she explained the process really well. The hiring manager interview went okay and then 2nd interview with team (2 people) was disappointing— no proper introductions by team, beginning was awkward team did not ask for my introduction, asked back to back questions for an hour but did not leave any room whatsoever for me to ask any questions which was very weird because usually people ask in end if you have any questions for them since you spent a whole hour answering questions. Person who took interview during first half just left mid interview for another call - again not leaving room for questions or discussions. For me, personally, team and culture where I work is extremely important and this screamed a huge red flag but I was hopeful due to some great reviews I had read of company’s culture on glassdoor but I realize it also varies from team to team.
Did not hear back afterwards, followed up and was told they’ll let me know and then came rejection few weeks later with no feedback whatsoever.
I personally feel it was due to me not being too ‘technical’ which the role did not ask for at all in the description - and some questions were technical oriented and since my understanding was that this role isn’t technical based on job description and how the role was described, I kept sticking to the business process around the questions asked despite having enough technical experience and knowledge around the tools.
I was told the role in mostly for data quality- which is my expertise- but lot of questions around data security, data policies and implementation, data sourcing (using JSON formats?) were asked which seemed irrelevant to the role itself.
Anyway, I feel like feedback genuinely helps people interviewing and it’d be great if Ciena could incorporate in their hiring process.
