I hadn't actively been looking for a new job at the time, but a staffing agency reached out to me about the position, and I thought it sounded interesting, so we went on to the interviewing process.
The first part of the process was as expected - a phone interview. And then, once I crossed that threshold, I was invited to an in-person interview at Citadel. The staffing agency recruiter told me that it was between three candidates, including myself.
So far, everyone whom I talked to at Citadel was pleasant, however, they never at anytime told me what the salary range for the position was, and it was apparently taboo to ask. I found this strange, because why would I leave my current job, which I liked well enough, to take the risk of changing jobs for a salary that could potentially be the same or worse? In my opinion, companies that don't mind wasting both their and the candidates' time by not being upfront about salaries are going about things the wrong way.
Regardless, I took a day off of work to interview, because I was supposed to be interviewing with multiple people starting at 11am, and I didn't really see a workable way to be missing for hours from my current job. However, I only interviewed with three people, and then waited for an hour doing nothing, because apparently the final person to interview me (who was also the main decision maker) was busy as an emergency came up. Perhaps this was true, but it would have been nice if they had been conscious of my time and not let me sit there for an hour, waiting for an interview that was never to be.
They then said that they would need to reschedule me to interview with this person, which to be honest, made me feel somewhat ill. Would I have to find a way to miss more time from my current job to come back to Citadel and interview again?
Fortunately, they never did call me to reschedule - perhaps they didn't like me, although it seemed to me that the interview was going well, or perhaps they just liked someone who did have a full interview a lot. Or, maybe I was just blacklisted for having the gall to ask what the proposed salary would be.
Of course, they never called me to let me know that they were no longer interested and that they wouldn't be rescheduling my interview.
In any case, the way I was treated made me realize that this is a place that I would never want to work. Eventually I did end up leaving my job at the time and moving onto greener pastures, but thankfully it wasn't at Citadel.
