I applied online in late July and was contacted the next day to set up an interview. It started with a phone screen four days later with the Head of IT. It seemed to go well. I was then asked to come onsite to interview with multiple team members which occurred the following week. That also appeared to go well. The next week, I get an email stating, "I wanted to let you know that everyone really likes you and they all want you on our team." It includes a job offer. We negotiate salary and start date for early September. I was told the CEO personally sends each official offer and it was coming but, in the meantime, to speed up the process, I was asked to submit to a background check. It came back quickly with no issues. Shortly afterwards, I was asked (unexpectedly) to talk with four additional people (directors, department heads). I wasn't sure if this was still part of the interview (since I already had the offer) or if this was preparation in terms of people I would eventually work with. Since it was taking a while to schedule the meetings, all via phone call, I asked if I was still going to start in early Sept. The question was never answered. After the four meetings were complete (less than a week before my start date), I followed up to let them know the meetings were done and asked for an updated timeline since I hadn’t received the official notice from the CEO. I heard nothing. I reached out multiple times. I even left a phone message and asked for an update. No response. After multiple email requests, I would get an occasional response telling me they were working to get an update and would let me know. This uncertainty goes on for almost four weeks. A company rep eventually sets up a phone call and tells me “the team decided I wasn’t the right fit” for the position. I asked what happened between the job offer and that realization. He didn’t provide any new information. Just repeated the same lines. I’m disappointed in not getting selected but more so on how this whole thing was handled. I don’t know the exact timing but it’s obvious they changed their minds several weeks before that final phone call. During this time, I stopped looking for a job thinking I had one, thereby passing on other opportunities. This is not a good look for Cloudflare. In reviewing comments from others who have interviewed with the company, I’m not the only one who’s had a bad experience. I know Cloudflare has big plans for growth. I hope developing some integrity is included on their roadmap.
