      Team Leader Interview

      Jul 24, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Belfast, Northern Ireland
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Co-op (Belfast, Northern Ireland) in Jul 2019

      Interview

I applied online, which included a situational judgement test. Very easy to pass, just put the customer first in every situation. Try to consider how you would successfully delegate tasks to ensure a successful day on the job. I heard back within a week, and was invited to a 1-1 interview with the manager of the store. Co-op will call you before they email you with a confirmation of your interview invite. This is just a chat to see if you have any questions about the role and interview process itself. My first red flag was when they started the phone call by calling me by my middle name. So. Got to the interview, and I arrived approx 10 to 15 minutes early (as advised in the handbook the email to you with your interview confirmation). I approached an employee on the shop floor to let them know why I was here. They didn't introduce themselves to me, just told me I was too early and I should wander around the shop while I wait. Second red flag. Turns out this would be the person interviewing me (why couldn't they introduce themselves, I don't know). Finally was told to follow them in to the back for the interview. The manager/interviewer got out the paperwork they need to follow i.e. a pack with the questions, availability and other details. He starts with some introductory questions (tell me about yourself etc), but doesn't look at me once. Not once. I am just talking into the room. He seemed so disinterested by everything I had to say. Perhaps the monotony of having to follow a script got to him, but he was incredibly unprofessional, and did not come across as a good boss or spokesperson for the Co-op. He perked up when I said I had full availability though. Major red flag.
