Interview
Recruitment task for filtering. it was a good experience though i think more detailed task would be better but overall great system. Asked about some common questions and then direct to the task and intro . For myself an introvert personality it's hard to express my self
Met with a recruiter and then went on to the first technical. I was told there would be many rounds of interviews, more than what I would feel should be necessary. I appreciated the fact that for a frontend interview, it was a frontend experience with a react/typescript app like the technologies the job actually uses, but this wasn't really geared for junior developers.
The interview itself involved a react app and required fetching from an API that they created within the app. Seems simple but you need to know how to handle promises and how to extract data from them off the top of your head. I got stuck with this area in particular and it took up all my time not allowing me to show off all of the other React, styling, and data management skills that I do possess. I definitely should have been more prepared with handling promises going in (I was pretty rusty) but just make sure you study up because that is important to this company.
I was told I was allowed to use MDN docs but it felt a little as if the interviewer was deciding that on the spot so I am unsure if that changes from interviewer to interviewer. I was told absolutely no AI (fair) but was not able to access any other resources like stack overflow or my personal notes that I reference frequently while working. I did not feel that this was very indicative of a real work environment and my ability to actually complete the job.
After the technical portion, I was humoured with a few behavioural questions but they were aimed at someone with more hands on experience with customers than I had completed. This is where I don't feel it was geared for junior levels because someone with less than a year out of school is not working with customers, making it a difficult question to ask. There are many other behavioural questions that could be asked at the junior level that will incorporate personal and team projects or internships they have completed.
While I didn't perform great, I also believe my interviewer could have been a little more personable. I recognize that this is just another part of their job but a little empathy for someone in the job market right now could really go a long ways. It was really hard to connect with them because they felt so closed off.
