      Site Reliability Engineer Interview

      Nov 20, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at College Board in Nov 2018

      Interview

Phone interview for the first round that went pretty well. Then they sent me hackerrank interview exam link. The question ranged from, write a DB query then solving a programming logic, installing GIT and writing a bash script. I felt pretty weird about doing the exam because the job description never mentioned anything like it. But out of curiosity, I went through the process. The most notable part is, the hackerrank had nothing to do with what I do in a regular basis, and the job description didn't mention what type of question hackerrank will ask. So the whole thing was a bit strange. I don't think I did that well in the interview exam, even if I did I don't think I would work for them. It seems they don't care much about what you can bring in based on your years of experience, for me that was a big turn off.

We’re sorry your experience interviewing here wasn’t ideal. We take our recruitment process and interviews very seriously, and expect all candidates to be given an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and experience. We recently began using hackerrank as a programming assessment tool; it was not the intent for you to complete an assessment that does not match the responsibilities listed in the job description. I will share this information with our Talent Acquisition team and we’ll make the necessary adjustments to our process. If you would like to provide additional information, please email me directly at hstrychowski@collegeboard.org.
