      Human Resources Interview

      Jan 4, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Chicago, IL
      Declined offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Conagra Brands (Chicago, IL) in Dec 2021

      Interview

After applying, the interview process started with a 1:1 interview with the hiring manager. After this, a few weeks later, the team requested a next round of interviews, which consisted of 5 separate 1:1 conversations to take place. After that, I had a final interview with the leader of the team. While I really enjoyed everyone who I met with, I ultimately declined the offer given. The hiring manager was late to not only our initial interview (10+ minutes,) but every time she said she'd call me or wanted to touch base with an update, she was well past the time she scheduled. As someone who was working while also interviewing, this was very off-putting; this, paired with several hours of interviews, was challenging from a candidate standpoint. I appreciate the thoroughness, but with the current job market, it seems super outdated. Likewise, the offer came in lower than my expectations, and the timeline was pushed out several times, which ultimately helped me make my decision.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Conagra Brands in May 2021

      Interview

Multi-stage interview process: first with a screener, then the hiring manager (and potentially others), and then a site visit. The first round screener was very kind and efficient. She asked some typical behavioural questions and gave me an introduction to the role. She responded quickly to any questions and follow ups I had. She was great. I had to follow with them, however, as the feedback deadlines they set came and went. After a follow up, I was asked to come in for a second round interview with the manager and the role's current incumbent. They spent some time asking me about my resume and asked a number of more challenging behavioural questions. The interview became uncomfortable, however, as the manager and the incumbent spent increasing amounts of time showering each other with praise about how great they thought the other person was, versus getting to know me and my work style. I was repeatedly told I would have very big shoes to fill and that they wished the incumbent wasn't leaving. I got the impression the manager was still coming to terms with having to hire someone new, and that they were seeking a clone of the incumbent. What should've been a helpful bit of context became excessive, awkward, and devaluing as a candidate. I turned down further steps in the process when they missed the deadline they set again and I got another job offer.
