I met my current boss at a meeting when I was at the last year for my Ph.D. We had a conversation after his presentation and I mentioned that I was about to graduate and looking for job opportunities. He happened to have a project funded at that time and the project matched my background pretty well. I sent him my CV about one month later and got the jobs immediately.
I first went through a Zoom interview with the research group, and then there is a seminar talk onsite to cover the topic that I am familiar with. I do not see particular challenge once the background fits the job.
I applied through other source. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Cornell University (Ithaca, NY)
Interview
1hr- presentation
30 min- individual person (x 5~6 people)
it was almost half of day to spend with others. it's better to learn what you want to contribute your work for the research.
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Cornell University in Oct 2019
Interview
The whole process was very fluent and efficient. I just interviewed with my advisor and passed. You don't need to worry if you have good skills and publications. I hope my comments will help you.
