There are two different interview experiences. There are "Bulks" during the beginning of the Fall Semester where they do three days of mass interviews, anyone that shows up gets an interview. Cornell Fitness Centers, CFC, does most of their hiring during this time. The other interview process happens during the year, when you submit an application and then schedule and appointment. Interviewers are usually other students that have been interview trained and have higher ranking, as well as students who are in assistant management positions. Occasionally you will be interviewed by the professional staff. The interviewer will take notes and complete an evaluation. The pro staff reviews all notes and recommendations and then makes the actual hiring decision. Interview questions are very standard. They'll ask about yourself and then give scenario based questions. This may seem a little over board for a job at the gym but they're also doing it as a growing experience for students. They want to give students as real of an experience on both sides of the interview process. That being said the interview may seem very daunting but they have realistic expectations especially for Freshmen who may never have had a job before. They're looking for you to have a personality more than anything. Stay calm, smile, and don't give one sentence answer. They're asking you a question, but think about what that question can reveal about your personality or customer service skills etc. Use every questions as an opportunity to sell yourself. Dress nicely, show up early.
