      Campus Recruiting Coordinator Interview

      Dec 23, 2024
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Cornell University in Oct 2024

      Interview

I interviewed with the head of career services at Cornell Tech and was ghosted by them. I had my interview in October and it has been two months without a single update. As for the interview experience, they didn’t ask me a single question about my recruiting experience or the internship programs I've managed. I assumed they’d want to hear about the successes of those programs—like how many hires we made or my specific responsibilities. Instead, the focus was solely on variations of the same two questions: why I was interested in the role and what I hoped to find in my next job. When it came time for my questions, they seemed pretty disengaged from the start. I asked about their management style, specifically about a time they supported a direct report's growth or advocated for someone on their team. That’s when they interrupted me and asked, “Why are you asking me these types of questions?” To me, that was a huge red flag. They said that anyone who asks these questions likely had negative experiences with management in the past (even though they didn’t ask a single question about my previous experiences!). I felt those questions were very relevant for anyone trying to understand what the potential working relationship with their manager could look like. For someone in a career services role, they should not be discouraging anyone from asking questions, especially since they primarily work with students just starting their careers. By this point, I knew I wouldn’t fit into a culture that shuts down questions instead of exploring curiosity, and I was glad to end the interview.
