The interview process was very, very long. From the time I submitted a resume to the time I learned I was not offered the role, more than 7 months had passed. My on campus interview was very thorough, and exhausting. Dinner, a full day (9 hours of interviews and presentations) and then another dinner concluded the process. They put a great deal of time, effort, planning, and staff time into preparing for my visit to campus, and everyone was courteous, professional, and engaged. At the end of the process, they selected an internal / interim candidate, which I think they had planned to do all along. They also did not have the courtesy to contact me to tell me their decision. I called them a month after my interview only for the hiring manager to tell me that they had already offered the role to the incumbent, and that he had already accepted, weeks earlier. Fairly common among academic institutions from other experiences.
