I will first say, the people I interviewed with that are in middle or lower management were amazing people. Hit it off with each of them and could see ourselves working well together. Senior level positions seemed like they had no idea what they were doing, plucked from an array of corporate positions to run a marijuana company. (where have we seen this… )
I was contacted by their recruiting team via LinkedIn. If you are on LinkedIn, it is a great place to recruit and discuss opportunities among other things. I highly recommend it! They knew I owned a company in the cannabis space when they reached out to hire me. I was interviewed by a talent acquisition manager, lets call her J from Miami. 15 minute quick intake interview: simple questions, tell me about yourself, why Curaleaf, etc. After that call, I was set with a video call with a manager in Miami, Florida to discuss the Florida facility. Again, the lower management tier was an absolute pleasure to talk with. Great interview ask me: what chemicals can you spray on x,y, z. What medias have you grown in and what kind of culture am I looking for. Again, I am asked to interview with a manager in New Jersey. Again, great guy with a wonderful attitude towards leadership: asked about what I was doing now, if I knew anything about the area, etc. He had mentioned I might want to look over the NDA since I owned a company in the space and it would eventually come up anyways. Great! They send me the NDA, I look it over and highlight a few places we could discuss.
J from Miami comes back and says no issues with the highlights and we continue the process (we are 2 weeks in by now. I would have been fine if they said we had issue at this point. No scruff off my back). I am asked to have another interview with the SVP of cultivation. This interview was odd… I get an email about 45 minutes prior to the interview that the SVP didn’t realize he was traveling that day and if we could reschedule the interview. He asks to reschedule at 6:00PM the same night “when he lands”. So I again, get the computer setup while cooking my family dinner and interview with the SVP. He is in the car, not paying attention and does not even know what position I am interviewing for. He doesn’t have my resume and admits he didn’t look it over (may have been an interesting read for the flight). He also turns his video off, where all the other interviews had theirs on. After I spend the first 15 minutes catching him up, we discuss the industry. He didn’t have any standout questions besides the “tell me about yourself”. Then he suddenly says, ohh crap… my flight… uhhh…. and just starts messing with his phone. I am mid question asking: “What kind of support does upper management give in day to day operations?” when he says, “I gotta go. You can email me your questions. Sorry…” I am kind of caught off guard at this point and laughed a little as we awkwardly get off the phone. I mention it to J from Miami as it is literally exactly what I had read here on Glassdoor as an issue they need to fix. J from Miami says he may have been in a rush and didn’t mean to cut off the rescheduled interview. I gave him the full benefit of the doubt as we all have things come up. No big issue…
I am told next that they would like me to talk to the manager of the region that we had narrowed down for me to be hired for… great! I talk to an amazing woman who is the regional manager of this location. We have a 1 ¼ hour interview ranging from questions about growing to cultural and management situation that I felt had a great fit. The people they have on the regional and below level are awesome. J from Miami asked if the manager can do another interview to just drill down on some points. I again, clear my schedule and set up my computer to interview for the 6th interview for this position ranging from 5 weeks previous. She asks me about corporate leadership and the ability to bridge upper management and workers who do most of the work. We again, have a great interview and it seems like this would be a great fit all around. J from Miami asks me if HR can interview me “as a courtesy to them”. At this point, it is almost comical as everyone minus the SVP have all been very positive interviews and good things to say. So I ask my wife if she can one more time, take her online class outside so I can have some time to talk to the final piece of the interview process: HR. I have about a 30 minute conversation with HR Director where she goes through all my previous jobs. She asks a little about positives and negatives of each and what I would do with my company if I was hired full-time with Curaleaf. I said, “I have thought about this over the past few weeks and I would pass the operations on to my partner and would have no link. That way, I can focus all my energy on this position and Curaleaf’s operation.” She replies, that sounds good and we get off the phone with her saying, “we will be in touch shortly”. She was great to ta
