Did an online application form. The form gave you dropdown to say salary expectations - these were only in £10k intervals. I picked the one in which my expectations would fall in. Fortunately, later in the form there was a space to say what your current salary was and what your expectations were and be specific. Which I did. I was invited to interview for which I had to do a presentation and poster as well as a competency interview. I was offered the job, £11k under what my current salary was. The HR contact I spoke with enquired about raising it and secured a small raise but they were unable to get even halfway to my expectations. Noone apologised for this massive oversight and the fact that they'd interviewed someone who couldn't possibly work for the salary they wanted to pay. Moreover, I'd spent a huge amount of time preparing for the interview as there were 2 tasks before the interview and had paid for a train from London to Sheffield.
It would help if this company advertised salaries for roles up front so you can self select whether it's for you.
The interview itself was good, I felt like the two people I spoke to were passionate about what they did and were open to being collaborative on the direction of the role. It was just a shame they hadn't properly processed my application to see if I was in fact a viable candidate.
