      User Experience Writer Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Cvent in Feb 2021

      Interview

-Phone screen to review the position once I applied. I found out about the max pay allocated for the position here ($20/hr) -Personality and cognitive test. Both were timed and they encourage trying the practice tests too. -Short screening interview. This part was more intense: just you and the hiring manager on a tight schedule. -Group technical interview with a short surprise design challenge. This interview was like 2hrs I think? Definitely on the longer side, but that was nice. I was interviewed by a group of three and a group of two, all from the UX writing team. The design challenge was straightforward and for a feature that they already implemented. I liked knowing that they wouldn't unethically use our content from the design interview challenges. -Post interview survey to input references and some other information. Most notable was that they ask for your high school SAT and GPA, which feels ridiculous to someone nearly done with college. ....and another cognitive test (the same one but proctored) along the way. The entire process was pretty labor intensive, especially the ridiculous cognitive testing. That side of things felt so disconnected and made me worry "what kind of people are applying to their companies that they believe in this." The only reason I'm not giving this a thumbs down is because the team that I met during the group interview was refreshing. It gave me a great sense of the team's dynamics, attitudes, and demographics, something that you can only really feel for in-action. They were great—but the HR bureaucracy was not. If you want applicants who will do great work, trust and talk to them instead of giving them irrelevant brain quiz busy work.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Where do you see your career path going in the future? Netflix or Hulu and why? (asked in a UX sense, but I think this part of the interviewing could've been clarified more)
