      Sales Development Representative Interview

      Nov 3, 2021
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Tysons Corner, VA
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Cvent (Tysons Corner, VA) in Sep 2020

      Interview

I had spoken to the recruiter multiple times in the beginning, almost every other day, asking me questions and constantly pushing scheduled events back. I had to take a CCAT test (kind of absurd for an entry level sales role) and once I passed that, I was moved along to an all-day, legit a full work day's worth, of interviewing against around 12 other people and a handful of internal employees on the zoom call watching us and listening to everything we did and said. They would have their cameras off and just listen to interactions between the candidates and watch our processes, which I noticed but a handful of people did not and were saying some stuff they wouldn't have if they knew they were being watched and ultimately knocked them out of the running. We split in half to do a group 'project/ presentation' with other candidates, had to give an elevator pitch on ourselves, did one-on-like 4-5 internal Cvent employees grilling us with questions and us asking them stuff. They all seemed to mention that they really weren't able to afford much and/or live on their own with this job when I asked how their work-life situation is. Later that day I was offered the job and thankfully I had a background in asking the tough/ right questions because the offer letter was incredibly different to what I had been told and a few clauses they did not disclose to me. I was told there was free healthcare, wrong. Was told I had to stay in the job for a whole 18-months or I would owe the company 4k which was not at all brought up until I had an offer in hand. I asked if the 4k was a sign-on bonus and they said No, it was rolled into the 40k (incredibly low salary for Northern VA) so I was borderline offered 36k if I didnt stay there for a whole year and a half. They told me I get parking stipend that did not cover the entire costs of the parking garage down the street because they didnt have enough parking on-site and dont allow remote work past Covid. Overall, was the absolute worst interviewing experience I have ever had. To make us jump through so many hoops and long days/ processes just to get an offer that is disgraceful, offensive, and just over all wrong was so upsetting. If this is any indication of what it is like working there, then I feel bad for all of their employees probably being lied to and taken advantage of. On top of all of that, when I was unemployed and trying to get unemployment during Covid, I had been honest to the office letting them know why I declined the offer because I was not being told the truth and they were being sketchy throughout the whole process, this company had straight up lied to the unemployment office giving them false dates, info, and people I had never spoken to so I was unable to get any unemployment money. Worst experience ever and this entire situation will forever be burned in my brain.

      Singapore
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Cvent (Singapore) in Jan 2023

      Interview

Apart from the Recruitment Associate being quick to respond and easy to communicate with, everything else was distasteful. After an initial screening call, I was scheduled to speak with the hiring manager, Went well however my expected salary was above what they were prepared to offer so they got back the next day that they would like to put me through another SDR role in a different product within the company so I had to be interviewed by the other hiring manager. Interview was scheduled for 2nd Feb at 6pm to 630pm. Waited 15 mins however no one joined the call. Reached out to the recruiter and she said the hiring manager is busy so we rescheduled to 6th Feb as a confirmed timeslot from their end. 6th Feb came and I was in the call and same thing happened. 15 mins passed and no one joined. Reached out to recruiter but this time she didn't reply me till next day and informed the same reason again - hiring manager was busy. I thought it is very disrespectful of candidate's time as I accommodated to an early evening time slot to cater to the time zone difference despite having to work in office. Thankful I did not take leave from work as it would be a complete waste. I chose to disregard the opportunity that Cvent had because it is not worth the time and effort. I recommend to skip Cvent. Bad culture from the get-go

      Interview

I was reached out by a recruitment agency. The first conversation was with their recruiter who had a lot of positive energy and good info. Then a Cvent recruiter that used to do the job. She was very good at describing the job and interview process. I am excited by the next steps in the process.
