A joke. A week or so after I applied, I received an email from a "Senior Manager" which is encouraging. To begin, the introductory email was a bit canned and impersonal at best. Secondly, it came with a request to complete an assessment "which helps us determine where the best fit exists". It's basically the equivalent to a wonderlic test. I won't bore you with my true feelings about this part of the process. However, it came in parallel with a phone interview request which is great! Ok so we confirm the date/time for the phone interview.
[Gameday] Three minutes AFTER I was supposed to receive a call, I get an email from the Senior Manager...he needs to reschedule. Umm, ok. Not the best first impression (remember I'm a recruiter too) but it happens. I agree to move my schedule around to fit the time he requested the following Monday. And guess what, not even an email this time. Nice touch.
So I send an email asking if he is still interested in talking. No response. In the world of recruiting, things can get crazy and priorities change. You can fall behind and that resume/candidate can fall to the bottom of the pile of those priorities. I know where this is going, but in the outside chance that was the case, I send another follow-up email a week later. So that leads me here.
As a recruiter, this is the exact lack of professionalism I combat every day when I'm talking to candidates. Please don't view this as some bitter rip because I didn't get selected to move forward. If anyone can take rejection about a job it's me. But my "recruiter" couldn't even get that far. He asked me to do an assessment, which I did. He asked me to reschedule, which I made arrangements for and then I get a cloud of dust. Maybe I bombed "the assessment" and I was sooo inept it wasn't worth moving forward. Maybe they closed the position. Maybe they promoted someone from within. But the lack of communication in this case not only speaks volumes about the way this company operates, but also about their leadership. Guess what, we're all busy. But at the end of the day, there are people who do what they say they are going to do...and there is everyone else. This was just a unimpressive experience.
