It started with an initial phone call of about 10-15 minutes describing the position followed by a few questions regarding any opportunities I may have and where cvent ranks among them. This call ended with a brief description of an upcoming personality and aptitude test that I would have more info on in a following email.
I received the email which had several resources that better describe the test and how to study for the test. A link was then provided to take the test at any time I felt fit as long as it was in a certain timefame before another upcoming call. Upon completing the test I had no feedback on my performance or score indicating how it went (if you haven't done an aptitude test before I feel these tests can be challenging) . Shortly after I had a follow up call regarding more details on the duties and tech stack for the position as well as a short explaination on the test I took in which I was told there was room for improvement but not to worry as this test was a mere practice before the real one which is done live over webcam and microphone. A date and time was scheduled for the real test and I was given a few tips and a following email with more resources to study. When the day arrived for the real test I loaded meeting software where the recruiter was present and we had a short coversation about the test before starting. The test was completed with the recruiters webcam and mic off to remove distractions. After the test we quickly scheduled a call with a manager for a later date. (no information was given regarding the real test results or preformance)
The Manager call was where the actual job related technical questions began. I was quized on my knowledge of software testing terms , mostly focused on API's, HTTP transfer verbs and applicaton knowledge of jira,git, postman or ReadyAPI. This call ended with a window to question your future manager and then a brief summary and end of call. Following this call a day or so later I received a call from the recruiter to schedule an on-site interview which was said to be 2-3 hours long with a scheduled window of 5 hours total.
Before the day of the interview which was scheduled for the following week, I downloaded postman and ready API as I had zero experience with them and began to test open source API's to get a feel for it. I then built a project composed of about 20 different tests using multiple methods and wrote up an excell document of test cases for these tests with expected and actual output. Arriving at the interview I was given a schedule which showed time frames of meetings with 5 different people, I had a quick discussion about mac computers and my knowledge on the position, I did not have time to demonstrate my project. The next meeting is when it started to get intense, I had 2 people in the room and it started with an explaination on the product I would be working on and then after that the testing began. I had the 2 interviewers reviewing my resume and going down it they were quizzing me with technical questions regarding the languages I had listed. This was something I oddly wasn't prepared for as i spent most my time studying QA testing and API's. I was asked a few challenging questions about java, linux, and javascript. Other questions included simple things like sql statements (inserts, joins, selects), Git commands(branching, master branch, cloning) some typical business terms (sprints, agile development, jira software). The next meeting was with 2 people as well but over webcam in the room on a tv, it was my future possible manager and a colleague who tested me more on what i expected, Qa terms and methods, QE software, API's, some more sql questions. Then the interview concluded with 1 final person who was the manager of the entire office, it was more informal and was quite pleasant after being bombarded with questions.
After the interview finished I was contacted by the recruiter a few days later who informed me they want to offer me a position but said they still have to discuss the salary. After just about a week I recieved another call from the recruiter who presented me with a salary offering which was VERY competitive compared to the market. I quickly accepted the offer and am now employed by Cvent. (benefits are great, hours might be long, there are flexible hour options but they are still restrictive, cash bonus every year of 10% salary seemed expected but was still labeled as (dependant on company performance)).
Overall the interview process was intense and a little over the top compared to any other company I've interviewed with, but they offer more than most do in terms of salary. They truly do value your ability to learn and overall knowledge over fancy degrees and education gpa's. It's worth it to work for them so give them a try!
