Cypress Semiconductor interview questions

I was first contacted by telephone, and spoke with a manager and then with an engineer. I came in for an in-person interview and was provided a schedule. I was then ushered into a small, windowless room. Several interviewers spoke with me by speakerphone. I was asked several times to describe a time that I argued my position successfully, and how I handled conflicts. The "wolf pack" asked me to perform complicated trigonometry calculations on a whiteboard, and later asked me to write some C++ code on a whiteboard. I sensed that oral debate is an important part of the culture there, even at the engineering level. At the end of the day, I asked if I could see the engineering lab, as I had not been shown anything other than the small, windowless room. The people (other than the manager) seemed very professional, although the prevalence of company-logo shirts was a bit off-putting. Overall, it seemed like a rather impersonal work environment.

The phone interview is pretty easy. Cypress interview has two main components which are important: 1. Interviews on tech skills: They have 3-4 interviews on tech skills. They ask lot of real world problems on their products. They are mostly looking for logical approach rather than the best solution. The wolfpack interview has 3 people who ask questions in a rapidfire manner for 1 hour. This is a test for stress and its okay to ask for thinking time and to formulate answers carefully. This demonstrates good grasp of technology as well as ability to work under pressure. 2. Interview with questions on estimation: Questions such as how many gas stations are there in SF or how many McDonalds exist in US. The key here is to explain the thinking process and to ask clarifying questions to the interviewer and working with them to get to a well-thought out solution
