Thirty minute interview on the phone first from a recruiter. She appeared very interested; even stated I would be receiving the higher starting pay due to my background and experience. Second interview done with Microsoft Teams, video interview. (These are Covid-19 times). The second interviewer was a "team manager" or some similar title. Perhaps this is a Millennial thing, but she was not professional. She was on site in her cubicle but slouched in the seat and drinking from a water bottle. She started the interview talking about herself. Yet, it was personal in nature, which is not professional. Again, millennials don't know how to be professional. She bragged about having been to 36 states and "loves" Vegas. I was not impressed; I've been to more than 36 states and have called home seven of them. Plus, when someone during an interview brags about loving Vegas, what comes to my mind is a party animal. How would the interview go if the applicant mentioned loving a place like Vegas? This person also mentioned she has no children. That is something you do not at all mention during an interview. She asked about five questions. She stressed the importance of using different computer systems and that many new hires have difficulty managing the different computer systems all at once on a screen (they want to flip back and forth to a different screen; I told her I reduce the pages so I can see several systems at once on my screen). She mentioned they have difficulty learning the different systems. I'm fairly confident this person named Jess felt I was too old for this position, since I do not color my hair. Of course, the HR people nowadays spend half their days finding out our ages. I'm 58 this year and it was company felt I would not be able to learn this job. Yet, I was well spoken, with excellent verbal and written communication. If you can read this, and you can, you know I can write and speak well. I don't speak in Tik Tok, Snap Chat or Twitter terms. After I learned I was not chosen of the 5-10 positions being offered, I was told they had to choose among highly competitive people. I told them in a return email that it was all based on age. This company (D - Deceased, C - Case - M - Management Services) which collects on deceased accounts has already experienced much turnover due to the hiring of twenty something persons who lack any post secondary education. The interviewer even stated that many persons can't do the job since they have to be on the phone all day long and can't use their personal phones or the Internet. Yet, these Millennials and younger complain about those prohibitions. It was obvious, in the end, that my age had much to do with not being hired. It's all about their games on site (I watched the video; I see what they do for fun) and they just don't want someone who is not in a particular age group.
