      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at David Weekley Homes (Houston, TX) in Nov 2016

      Interview

Intrusive and a waste of time. I first had a short phone interview during which I was asked minimal questions and was given a snapshot of their current situation. The next step in the process is a battery of personality tests, IQ tests and the background check. Plan on wasting 3 hours while they determine if you’re a good fit and they dig into your background before they conduct a proper interview. I should have walked away at that point in the process. I guess they liked what they saw, 2 weeks later I was scheduled for a half-day interview with 4 of the team members. Everyone was great and they were very responsive to my ideas and impressed by my background. At this stage, I was made aware that they were considering moving many of their operations to India and I gave them advice and guidance on the process. One Director didn’t have time to meet with me that day but everyone made that seem like this wouldn’t get in the way of the process. For the next 5 weeks I was told how impressed they were with me but that they could not make a final decision for one reason or another –ranging from a bad software rollout to people being on vacation. Some of the excuses were valid, but I came to find out that others were not and that they were spinning up their India operation (prematurely) and that they were modifying what they wanted from the position for which I applied. Finally, I was scheduled to meet with the formerly absent Director. We talked for nearly an hour and he was defensive and arrogant. He asked several probing questions in an effort to get free advice on how to proceed with his half-baked offshore plan. I was not offered the position on the grounds that I didn’t have experience with X and Y (even though I have been doing both X and Y successfully for nearly a decade), that they changed the role and assumed that I wouldn’t be interested in the new parameters.
