      Copywriter Interview

      Mar 29, 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Houston, TX
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at David Weekley Homes (Houston, TX)

      Interview

The initial phone interview concerned my work experience, my areas of expertise, the nature of the position I had applied for, and the company as a whole. That went quite well. Then they ran a background check on me, which also went quite well. The next step was an in-person interview, filling out an application, and taking the Wonderlic exam. I got to see the environment where I would work, and meet the person in charge of hiring for the position. We discussed my previous experience in greater detail, we discussed the requirements of the position to the extent that I felt greater aware of what I would be doing if I got the job, and we discussed the nature of the company as a whole, and the department in which I might be working. It was a very positive experience. It seems I did well on the Wonderlic, because I next found myself taking the Burke Assessment. This is a thoroughly frustrating personality test that can take 1-2 hours to complete. I finished it and waited. Next, I was asked to return for a series of interviews at the office. I had four 1-hour interviews, each with a different manager, back-to-back (with a half-hour break in the middle). Each manager had my Burke results and asked me questions on a variety of topics. It was an intense experience, but not a negative one. The managers were all very unique people, but each of them made sure I didn't experience too much stress. Apparently I was impressive. I was soon asked to schedule a "Key Influencer Interview" in which the person I spend most of my free time with meets my managers. I thought this would be the managers asking my person about me, like a third party interview, but it was mostly an opportunity for them to get to know me as a human being via the person that knows me the best. It also provided the opportunity for that person to ask them questions about my potential work environment, and to air any concerns about the position. While this was a very unusual component for an application process, both my key influencer and I left feeling very positive about the experience. This was the final step of the interview process.

      Interview

Had a phone interview. Was very detailed and well-organized. The lady on the phone pressed me hard in her questions but was still very nice. The interview was very detailed in terms of how much it covered your resume in just a 30 minute timespan.
