I was contacted via email roughly two to three weeks after applying and asked to interview. I sent an immediate reply email but then received no reply to my response. When I received a reply several days later, an interview was set. Within minutes of discussing the job, it became clear I was way overqualified for the tasks of the job to the point I was surprised to have been called in for an interview. Interviewer was friendly, but it almost seemed as if she wasn't quite listening or did not understand the nature of the jobs that I'd been doing for the past decade that provided me more than enough experience to take on the role. After I explained my jobs multiple times and spelled out their direct application to our discussion, she finally seemed to have a grasp that I essentially already do the job of the head of the dept I was interviewing for. As our conversation progressed, it seemed to us both that I would possibly be very well suited to a more senior position within the department so the remainder of our time seemed to focus more on potential future opportunities as they related to this other management role. We concluded our meeting wherein it seemed clear that I'd not be a fit for the position for which I was interviewing, but that I would like to stay in touch for future opportunities. I sent a follow up email the next day for thanking her for taking the time to talk with me about the company and I provided further examples of my previous applicable design work to exemplify the points we'd discussed. I again expressed my interest in remaining in contact regarding future senior positions. I got no response. No email back. ...but nearly three WEEKS later, I received a phone call informing me another candidate had been selected for the position I'd originally applied to. One of the strangest interviewing processes I've been through.
