DigitalOcean Software Engineer II interview questions

I was a referral from a current DO employee. Process consisted of 5-6 steps (depending on how discrete you want to be) 1. Recruiter screening This was fairly short and basically seemed to function as a way to confirm my experience and my interest in the role, as well as discussing salary expectations. 2. Initial Technical Screening This was a very high level discussion with a member of the engineering manager team. We talked about things I'd worked on in the past, as well as my overarching philosophies on software development. 3/4/5. Technical Interviews I had 3 technical interviews with the team I was setup to join. One interview was a high level discussion with behavioural questions, another interview was for Systems Design, and the last one was a coding challenge in a language of my choice. 6. Offer meeting After finishing and passing the technical interviews, I met with my recruiter to discuss an offer.

For me (the process is not the same for everyone) the interview was broken up into 4 parts: - Manager Screening (30m) - Tech Lead Screening (30m) - Day One Technical Interviews (2 sessions totaling 2 hours) - Day Two Technical Interviews (2 sessions totaling 2 hours) The manager screening is to get a general feel for the company, the culture, and to see if you are definitely not a fit. It is also so you can ask basic work and life questions to make sure it's something you want. The tech lead screening was a basic test to see if core competencies were in line such that a full interview would not be a waste of time. The long session interviews were the technical interviews which spanned several technical disciplines and discussion about project mgmt. A good deal of coding -- "let's build this very simple product" & "let's debug this failing app", but in my case no algorithms. All in all the process felt conversational and reasonably fun.
