I applied in-person. I interviewed at Dollar General (Gastonia, NC) in Jul 2026
Interview
The interview went great, and I was hired. I was asked to come in to do training videos. After the first day, I was asked to come back to finish the videos and train in the store. The second day, after I fi wished videos, I stocked for a couple of hours because they had someone running the register. After completing that day, I was told they would get in touch with me to let me know when they wanted me to come back in. I was only given the assistant managers number. I never got the general managers number that hired me and everytime I called the store phone it was never answered. I would text the assistant manager to ask when the gm wanted me to work and was told she would call me soon. I never heard back. I ended up texting and calling several times with no response at all. After 2 to 3 weeks of trying to get in touch with someone and never could I was sent an e mail to do an exit survey. I have never had an experience like this before. I wanted the job so bad, and when I was finally hired I was so excited. To only have this odd experience. No communication what so ever. I don't understand. Why hire me if you weren't going to work me, then leave me in limbo?

Interview
The interview process was laid back and I felt comfortable to ask the hiring manager questions. I was respected and understood everything the manager was saying. I went into the back and we sat down and she told me about my position. She made it very clear as to what I had to do. She let me ask my questions that I had written before.

Question 1
The one thing they asked me was why I wanted the job.
I applied online through the website and the managed called me. I scheduled an interview over the phone. I was taken to the office where she asked me some questions (I don't remember them) and I handed her my resume. She basically hired me there, I think.
