      French to English Translator Interview

      Nov 10, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Duolingo (New York, NY) in Mar 2022

      Interview

Everything took place over email. There were two to three rounds of translation tasks, which I took a day to complete each time. Then I would send them back for review and have the opportunity to make revisions, before sending the task back again. The tasks required learning Duolingo-specific skills. I was rejected, but not given an answer as to why despite weeks of this process.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

No interview questions, just translation tasks.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Duolingo in Jan 2022

      Interview

I was not very impressed with their recruitment process which is a shame as I am passionate about the Duolingo brand and what they do. The guy who got in touch with me seemed really friendly and I received a response the day after I applied. I then had to complete a hometask which I found really interesting and as it is in my native language I thought I had done well. But I received no response from them so after a couple of weeks I had to chase and ask whether they had had a chance to look at my home task. I then got an email just saying that I was unsuccessful and telling me 'please note we do not provide feedback' so I could not even ask for feedback on what I didn't do right on the task. I was left feeling rather demoralised and sad for a few days. I would have loved to work for Duolingo but I am not sure I will apply again after this experience which really knocked my confidence.
