      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Duolingo in Oct 2024

      Interview

I was contacted by Duolingo's internal recruiter a few days after applying. I selected an interview date/time for a week later. When we connected what struck me immediately was the fact that he spoke about a mile a minute, almost as if he had something else to do. The questions were standard. I gave examples as to how I have evolved our global payroll services with our rollout of our service delivery model, ServiceNow technology, KPIs, SOX, Audits, separation of duties etc... Improving our global payroll accuracy to 96.5%. In response, his only question was how often we perform Audits? My answer: "Quarterly, previously monthly". I'm sure he did not assimilate the fact that we have 58K employees and have established a baseline for employee data audits (across HR, Benefits, Compensation, Payroll, Talent/Performance, Absence, Time Tracking, Learning, etc). Nor did the question he pose differentiate between employee data (I-9, Job Profiles, Benefits Enrollment) and payroll data auditing (which is every payroll). I did not get the sense that this question was anything more than a question that he posed in response to my summary of contributions to my organization. A few of the questions I posed he could not answer. He rapidly ended the interview with the standard: "I will socialize your credentials with the HM...." I had a pretty good sense for how this pursuit would conclude...24 hours later I received a "do-not-reply" email. Although, this was a first - I appreciated the communication as I felt that a negative candidate experience could only lead to a negative employee experience. I will have to reevaluate my use of their language services as well.
