Interview
I recently completed the EY One assessment after being screened in, and while it was a valuable practice experience, candidates should be prepared for a lengthy and somewhat opaque process. The test included multiple components — numerical reasoning, verbal/critical reasoning, strengths-based questions, EY values, and a mix of video and scenario-based prompts. There was no time limit, and the full assessment took me over an hour to complete.
The format was immersive and reflective of real consulting competency evaluations, which I appreciated. It provided a good opportunity to practise structured reasoning, ethical decision-making, and communication on video.
However, the test can feel vague in places, both in question style and outcomes. There is no clear indication afterwards regarding performance or which areas may need improvement. While the open-ended format mirrors real-world ambiguity, some clearer guidance or feedback would be helpful for candidates.
Overall, the assessment is realistic and well-designed for aspiring consultants, but expect it to be time-consuming and to finish with limited clarity on results.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The assessment included multiple sections combining video and numerical questions. Some examples included:
Mathematical reasoning:
A scenario involving a food truck menu (e.g., fries, burgers) with tables showing revenue and profit data. Questions focused on percentage changes and profit calculations, requiring reference to around seven supporting data attachments per question.
Business ranking scenarios:
Situations involving emails and data attachments where I had to rank options or make business recommendations, sometimes followed by related video response questions.
Video questions:
Why would you like to work for EY as a consultant?
How did you prepare for this interview?
What did you put as your preferred location, and why?
