The entire interview process was about a little over a month. I applied online then Alpha Castro the recruiter reached out that’s what it stared. Every time when Alpha schedules an interview with one of their team members there would be no information about their name and what they do so it like “Surprise” usually recruiters includes all the basic information about interviewers.
My first interview was with their Chairman of the board and another senior SaaS Sales leader. It went very well I have a lot of positive things to say about what I learnt about their experience and what is expected for this role. The second person was the company CEO ( I found out his name and the title on the interview) he was so down to the earth and informative. He gave some relevant questions and asked me some questions, I was up front and honest with him that I have a great sales experience in a different industry but very excited and eager to learn SaaS sales. He seemed satisfied with my answers to his questions and said that the next round would be with their operations and marketing team.
So, then I waited for about 3 weeks no word and I followed up with Alpha to see where they stand with hiring, I also mentioned that according to their CEO I was supposed to meet with their operations and marketing team. Then he said yes, I can schedule you for such and such time. That day came I met with two ladies which turns out to be their operations manager and marketing manager. That’s where I lost my interest for this company. Based on my previous experience I noticed there was a good turnover amongst sales reps and I tried to read some reviews. According to reviews sounded like there was a lack of training and internal communication. So, at the end of the interview I asked about some challenges for this role and if it has been any improvement on the sales training. Jill’s respond really shocked me. She said “well for this company we hire already trained and seasoned sales people, we don’t do too much hand holding and spoon feeding, if you are looking for a training like big companies do this is not the right job for you” I could really appreciate the honest respond and I am sorry the fact that this company is small and the product is not that famous there is even more reason that you should be proving a better training.
I decided the same day that I would turn down this opportunity as I wouldn’t want to work with the leaders that uses unprofessional lingo and kill passionate, talented people. I couldn’t see myself succeeding with these people. In my 9 years career this was the first time that I was so happy to get a rejection email. Good Luck to whoever accepted job. Dear, candidates please keep in mind as much as companies interviewing us, we are interviewing them too. Know your worth.
