Met first at 8:00 a.m. with group of five who would conduct individual interviews. Next hour or so had informal conversation with group but clearly this was part of the interview as well. Then started one on one interviews until about noon. Then lunch with future supervisor and more one on one interviews. Many opportunities to ask questions were offered and even so, wrap up came an hour early, which as it turned out was a bad sign. The personnel I met, with perhaps one exception, displayed exceptional courtesy, were universal in offering their help should I be selected and obviously very proud of their tenure with Eastman. The company culture visible that day and further amplified later in conversation is unique in my experience. It was the only interview in my career when I was certain that the opportunity of a lifetime lay before me.
The only disconcerting note in what I felt was the best interview experience of my career, was a total and complete omission of interview expense reimbursement. An hour or so after I left the realization struck home that not once did anyone in the time from my arrival until the final handshake in the parking lot ever mention reimbursement.
I have had other experiences where a company failed to reimburse expenses even when I had an email in hand that specifically mentioned this as a standard part of their interview process but in retrospect never had an experience even close to this particular event. Later, I was asked by my wife why I did not call or email about the oversight. I thought the answer was obvious.
