I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Edward Jones (Toronto, ON) in Apr 2015
Interview
The first step was a phone interview, where I was asked situational questions (Give an example of a time when you dealt with a difficult customer). She said there was an opening and that she'd pass my resume to the financial advisor, recommending me.
Then I was called by the financial advisor directly and scheduled an in-person interview. This interview was rather strange: he started off by saying he likes his office run a certain way. Then he would tell me how he likes to run his office, and then stop talking. So, I thought he would like to know that I was more than up for it and how I could fulfill what he just spoke about. We did that back and forth for about ten minutes, and then his next line was something to the effect of, "I don't need someone who will just react once something is brought up, I need someone who will be proactive and bring their own opinions to the table".
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
In-person interview I wasn't asked all that many questions.
The interview itself is nothing outside of the ordinary but the hiring process is ridiculous. Very long with several hoops to jump through. They aren't great about giving you information or answering your questions. It's a lot of placating. They need an extensive work history and are almost accusatory towards you if something doesn't align. When I started the process I was finishing my degree and graduated. They wanted a copy of my diploma which I hadn't received because it takes a few weeks to actually receive. I provided my application to graduate and degree audit and explained the diploma delay. I provided correspondence between myself and my university to support this. They practically accused me of lying about my degree and threatened to rescind the offer if I couldn't provide my diploma. Just left a bad taste in my mouth especially since my degree wasn't even required for the job. Thankfully my university issued my diploma shortly after that exchange but it was just really intense and felt unnecessary.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Basic interview questions: Why do you want to work here? Focus around client centered.
I am interviewing with them and so far so good. I did 5 steps and now I am waiting to see if I get an offer or not. It was very difficult but they were very nice during the interviews.
Digital interview first, if you advance, then a screening call from the recruiter. If you advance, then you meet the recruiter/ FA over Zoom. They see if you'd be a good fit at the office by asking situational questions.
