EWC is constantly posting ads for waxers on craigslist. I responded to one and was called soon after by the manager. We spoke briefly, then she asked me to come in for a group interview a couple days later. There were about 4 of us at the interview, we were asked a few questions about ourselves, our schooling, availability, but most of the time was spent telling us everything about the company and the job. We were sent sample scripts in advance, and we had to to do a couple wax strips on each other's arms and also recite some of the script to demonstrate selling the products. We were there for two hours.
I was contacted via email within a week for a second interview, which I opted not to attend and here is why:
Firstly, they show virtually no interest in the candidates, which is probably why they often wrangle a group of people together for interviews. They hire pretty much anyone. They claim to be flexible with scheduling, but they require you work one day every weekend (not unfair, but a bit difficult at times), and they said there would be a full time week long training schedule. I told them upfront I had a part time job and due to that I wanted part time hours. They said the training was mandatory and that I would have to take that week off from my job. They expect your life to be EWC.
Secondly, it is obvious how unprofessional and catty most of these women are. I met with three different managers. The one seemed nice, but the other two were just plain rude. They mentioned how some of the waxers in training couldn't get comfortable doing Brazilians because you are dealing with genitalia, and they were making fun of these employees to us.
Finally, I don't care for the company's selling practices. The scripts they make you memorize are massive, there is almost nothing you can say to a guest that isn't pre-planned, and you have to do this every visit. The sales tactics are very pushy, which will make some people uncomfortable. I also have gone there as a guest, and I do not care for this.
