I went through a total of 7 virtual interviews for this role, including creating and delivering a detailed presentation. The hiring manager (Onboarding Manager) was thoughtful, professional, and genuinely welcoming. He was a clear standout in the process. Unfortunately, my experience with an individual on a leadership/success team negatively impacted my overall impression. During our interview, he interrupted me repeatedly, asked vague questions unrelated to the company value he was assigned to assess, and responded to my answers with what felt like passive-aggressive critiques rather than constructive dialogue. Compared to other interviewers, who all asked clear, behavior-based questions, this interaction felt more like a one-sided performance than a professional exchange. As someone with nearly a decade of experience in tech and startups, I’ve encountered many personality styles. This one stood out as especially dismissive and condescending. It gave me serious pause about how feedback and collaboration might play out on that team. While I appreciated many aspects of the process and team, this experience was a red flag for me. Even if I had been offered the role, I had already decided I wouldn’t move forward. If you're someone who values clear communication, mutual respect, and inclusive leadership, particularly if you're a woman in tech, it’s worth asking thoughtful questions during your interviews to get a feel for team dynamics and do take note of any potential boys' club energy. This may have been a one-off experience, but I encourage others to be mindful and consider whether the culture and leadership behaviors align with your values.
