The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Everforth TopBloc (Chicago, IL) in Oct 2018
Interview
Two phone screenings then into the TopBloc office for conversations with various consultants/founder. Really enjoyed speaking with the consultants, everyone was very cordial great conversational tone.
I met with 4 people in the TopBloc office for a morning of interviews - very casual environment, I sat in a room as the interviewers tagged each other in/out one at a time.
Where my interview process went south...
I think I put my foot in my mouth after I asked the founder “Why Workday?” - he proceeded to give a 10 minute sermon an out how workday was God’s gift to HR admin. Then was followed by “You’re interviewing to be a Workday consultant and you don’t know what Workday does?!”
To make matters worse with the founder, I didn’t know who he was... midway through interview I asked what his title was at the company as he didn’t introduce himself... he was clearly flustered that I didn’t know who he was. He immediately pivoted and went on a tear about how great his company is, how he’s beating several other larger consulting firms, and how he used to be a bond trader (he was overtly insecure that I didn’t know who he was).
Overall.
Apart from my less than desirable experience with the founder, I truly enjoyed every bit of the interviewing process. The coordinator was responsive, the interview questions I was posed with were meaningful, and I believe they’re growing an incredible team.
I think TopBloc could be a great company to work for - the employees did say they were all pulling 50-60 hour weeks (typical in benefits during this time of the year) and were clearly hungry for good talent to join their team.
In closing.
Anyone interviewing with Jeff (the founder) should know who he is. It’s important to him. Like, LinkedIn him and know what he looks like.
