I submitted a resume online and received a phone call the next day to set up an interview. My credentials coincided very nicely with the job description. Evolent is a start-up company in the healthcare/Health IT space. I have over 10 years marketing experience in this same industry with a demonstrated track record of helping to build a start-up from the ground up. The first interview was a phone screen with HR. Very typical -- walk my through your resume, why are you looking to leave your current job, etc. It went well and HR immediately set up a 2nd phone interview with the hiring manager. This is where the process fell apart.
The hiring manager scheduled just 30 minutes for the interview, which IMO is too short for a Director level interview. Most of the questions were garden variety "tell me about yourself, how do you stay organized, etc." I actually ended up asking quite a few questions about the position since she failed to provide a thorough overview of the role. After 30 minutes she cut me off in mid sentence and said she had to run to another meeting. Understandable, but that speaks to my earlier point about scheduling at least an hour for an interview at this level. Because my background was such a perfect fit for the position I just figured the phone interview was more of a formality and fully expected to be brought in for an in person interview.
To my surprise, a week later I received an email explaining that they decided to move forward with other candidates. I immediately emailed the HR contact asking for more details on why I was not chosen to come in for an in person interview but she never responded.
