Got approached by a recruitment agency for the open position. They organised my first interview with the hiring manager and the head of the department. The interview (STAR format) lasted for an hour and it was a success. They wanted to speak to my former manager to obtain a reference. The call between the hiring manager and my former manager was also a success and they informed me through the recruitment agency that they want to offer me this position.
It took more than 2 weeks for the company to send over the initial offer. In the initial offer they failed to disclose what would be my actual regular working hours (all other benefits and perks they did list) and I was asked to confirm the offer. In the same email they invited me to ask questions if I have any. I kindly asked them to specify what are the regular working hours and what is their Overtime policy (in the interview I made it clear that working OT is not a problem for me, the question was about having clear expectations and understanding of employment conditions. I did not receive any answer.
Two days later the recruitment agency called me and informed me that the company has withdrawn the offer because I asked about the Overtime policy... Company's opinion was that I should rather be worried about the job to be done than how they handle OT.
My successful interview including the reference did not matter anymore simply because I expressed a wish for transparency and wanted to know effective employment conditions before signing the contract.
Also while waiting for this offer to come through I foolishly declined an interview with another company and lost that opportunity.
Archaic in their perception and unprofessional in communication.
