I applied online. I interviewed at Expedia Group (New York, NY) in Sep 2020
Interview
Interview with the hiring manager, then a separate interview with each person on the team, followed by a comm project. Lastly, a second interview with the same hiring manager.
Cons:
-The recruiter did not know the interview process so it was unclear whether I had one more interview left to do or several. She never ended up getting back to me about the status of the role until I reached out for an update (this was after I had spent hours interviewing with them plus submitting a full communications plan sample). Overall, the recruiter seemed pretty disconnected and did not have the info you’d expect from a recruiter. She actually forgot to schedule one of my interviews until super late into the interview process.
-the hiring manager did not come prepared with interview questions or an agenda... we just kind of spoke. It was fine for the first interview but very confusing for the second interview, I kind of think they forgot she had already interviewed me....
-at the end of the interview process, the hiring manager sent me a very confusing email saying she was so excited about what I could bring to the team. It was almost like an offer, so my hopes got up. Unfortunately it wasn’t an offer. Very confusing.
Pros
-people on the team seemed nice and were easy to talk to
My advice to Expedia HR is to create a formal interview process and communicate it up front with candidates.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
How would you make sure your communications were inclusive to employees both in and outside of the United States?
A recruiter contacted me and we chatted. The person said they would let me know if they were moving forward. I followed up after a week and the recruiter said they were following up with the hiring manager, and then I never heard from the recruiter again. This is not the first time I've been ghosted by Expedia recruiting.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Expedia Group in Dec 2022
Interview
Straightforward with three stages. One with a recruiter, one with the hiring manager, and a panel interview at the end. The recruiter was very clear on timelines and the process took about a month from start to finish.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
1. How do consciously include (one of Expedia's values" 2. Can you walk me through a scenario and how you would solve this issue (problem-solving issues related question) Overall the questions were focused on - can you pull from your previous experience where you've demonstrated some of the skills that would be required for this position?
the interview process lasted over 3 months with many rounds and ultimately led me to get ghosted by the recruiter even after a follow-up.
Round one was a simple phone call with the recruiter.
Round two was with the Hiring Manager.
Round Three was with multiple stakeholders.
Ultimately, the process was messy with different people reaching out to me causing me to not know who my main point of contact was. Each person I spoke to, however, was very kind and really wanted to understand my passion for this line of work and for Expedia. It felt more like I was talking to a friend rather than an interview which is always a plus in my book.
