I appreciated the opportunity to speak with Heather; however, my experience left me with concerns about transparency and fairness in the hiring process. Prior to the interview, Heather reached out to me seeking my interest in the role and sent me the PDF version of the job position without the salary range, but when I did my research of the organization, the posted salary range online for the role was listed as $50,500–$89,500. At the end of our conversation, I learned that the salary cap for the position in my location was $65,000—significantly below the publicized range.
This created the impression that the range was misleading, which undermines trust at the start of a potential professional relationship. As a candidate, I value honesty and clarity, and I believe it’s respectful to state location-specific salary caps upfront in all job postings to avoid unnecessary time and effort for both parties.
The experience also raised a personal concern: as a woman of color, I hope this was not a case of bias, whether intentional or unintentional. Pay equity and transparent communication are vital for treating all candidates with dignity and ensuring they feel equally valued.
I pray this feedback will encourage a hiring process that reflects integrity, fairness, and the organization’s stated values.
