Started with an email from 'Human Resources' very impersonal. The first step was a phone interview. This went well and there wasn't anything too technical, it was a very nice discussion which was very encouraging. The next step was an face-to-face interview.
The face-to-face interview had two steps: 1) Technical, 2) Personality Fit.
The technical portion started with them saying it was OK to not know all the answers but it became very clear that they were looking for someone who knew all the answers and in exactly their jargon-speak. No ridiculous puzzle questions, but there were some very simple 'how would you implement' or 'how would you design.' I was asked to use the whiteboard but the question was so easy I didn't see much point in it. They gave absolutely no feedback as whether the answers were correct or even sufficient from point of view. They were also terrible about framing the questions or giving enough information to know how to answer them. It is as if they would ask: "Can you fix a broken a program?"
The second part of the interview was about fitting in and the interpersonal aspects of the interviewee. This portion was filled with cliche questions and it was really hard to know exactly what they were after, but it became clear that I didn't want to work with them.
They seemed so focused on what they are doing they don't appeared to be very open minded. They are going to wake up one day and everything will have passed them by.
I don't think they know how to interview for what they are looking for. They need some serious training in how to conduct interviews.
I have already said this in so many words, but they appeared to be clueless that they are being interviewed also, that they really needed to 'sell' me on working there. Instead it was like, you should feel privileged to even have gotten the interview.
