      Interview

Very disappointing for the level of growth and reputation Figma has achieved. I really expected the HR team to be more professional, but the process ended up being what you experience in early stage startups, not Series D ones. I spoke with the hiring manager and moved on to the technical onsite which was pretty easy given my YOE. It was pandas and SQL related questions, and I actually expected the questions to be more challenging. Moreover, the HR kept on asking me about what companies I'm speaking with, who they are, etc., which usually means they are interested in you and trying prioritize your application. After waiting a few days from the last interview, I received a very strange letter from the HR recruiter saying that they won't be moving on and they cannot share any feedback regarding the technical test, but I can ask any other question. This is just them basically saying, we gave on offer to someone already and you were just too late, but saying that to you makes us look bad. There are a myriad different ways to address these kinds of situations language-wise, not just say "we can't give you any feedback", especially after you send me those signals. I'm not all that upset since I received 3 DS offers after that, but just extremely disappointed by the way Figma's interviews got carried out for a company of that reputation.

      Interview

My experience with the recruiter was positive. They were responsive, organized, and set clear expectations throughout the process. Unfortunately, the hiring manager interview was one of the least professional interviews I've had in recent years. The interviewer joined late and immediately commented that he was sleepy after lunch and "a little bit out of it." Throughout the interview, he frequently appeared disengaged and even remarked that he was "just trying to get through [his] notes." The conversation lacked structure, frequently jumping between topics with little continuity. Most responses received little to no follow-up, making it difficult to discuss complex projects, explain technical tradeoffs, or demonstrate how I approach problem-solving. At times, it wasn't even clear how much detail the interviewer was looking for before moving on. I was interviewing for a senior role, so I expected a thoughtful discussion around experimentation, measurement, stakeholder management, and analytical decision-making. Instead, many questions remained superficial, and several follow-ups didn't seem to build on what I had just explained. Rather than feeling like a collaborative conversation intended to understand my experience, the interview felt more like working through a checklist. Every interviewer has a different style, but I left with the impression that my experience wasn't meaningfully evaluated. Given the caliber of the company, I expected a hiring manager interview that was better prepared, more engaged, and more respectful of a candidate's time. It was especially disappointing because the role itself sounded interesting and the recruiting experience beforehand had been positive.
