      Investment Counselor Interview

      Dec 11, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Camas, WA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Fisher Investments (Camas, WA) in Dec 2020

      Interview

I was headhunted by a Fisher scout randomly one day. I reached out with interest. We set up a call with an HR guy in San Fran who spent about 15 minutes with me and decided my interests were more suitable for the IC role. Spoke to the Sr Recruiter for Investment Counselors, submitted a formal app, spoke again with the Sr Recruiter, did a 45min back-to-back interview with two team leads. Submitted a follow-up email expressing my interest in the position and then a couple of days later received a call from the Sr Recruiter saying they were not interested in hiring me at this time.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      - Why Fisher? - I assume you're actively interviewing - If no one hires you, what are your plans moving forward? (Brutal question) - How would you handle an irrational client? - Discuss the most recent national election with a mock client and how it pertains to the market?

      Interview

Way too exhausting and long, they outsource and had to send the same information about 5 times. Interview with internal personnel is fine, nothing out of the ordinary customer service job.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

They asked me to try to explain to a client why taking their funds out was a bad idea, first week on the job, now I understand it's because you will be basically doing a retention call center job, not giving actual personalized advice.

      Interview

The initial phone interview felt incredibly rushed. Despite the position being marketed as a wealth management role, it is essentially a high-volume asset-retention phone center. The day-to-day focus is simply convincing clients not to transfer their money out of the firm rather than providing actual, comprehensive wealth management or tailored financial planning services. Very misleading job description.

      Question 1

Explain a time you made a mistake and what did you do about it.
