      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Flipp (Etobicoke, ON)

      Interview

I was contacted by their recruiter, and while not actively looking for a new role, decided to accept the interview to see what was out there. I really like their product and use it often, and my curiosity got the best of me. Their office is nice, but quite far out of the city of Toronto. They offer a transit pass when working there, which is good since it's about as far west as you can go. It took me just under an hour to get there from Union Station. The interview was fairly straight forward, but some questions made me feel awkward when asked. Example: "We will likely leave the room with misunderstandings and preconceived notions of you - can you speak to those now?" ... um, not really! Everyone has their own notions, and that is an incredibly inappropriate question. How could I possible address those during our interview? As someone who also hires, this was an incredibly ambiguous and odd question. It also made me feel extremely awkward, and I second guessed myself many times after the interview. I'm confident in my abilities and background, but I've never felt more uncomfortable in my own skin as I did leaving that room. Overall, I think those interviewing were very junior, and I chalked it up to inexperience. Will definitely not be using that in my interviewing of staff going forward. :) Overall, the job wasn't for me. I thanked the team (also thanking them via LinkedIn). It all happens for a reason! I had additional experience interviewing, as did they apparently - haha! Feedback to Talent Team: It is proper business ethics to reach out and let interviewees know if they are being moved forward or not. Without any guidance, it leaves a very poor taste in potentials mouths, and word of mouth is a very tricky thing. I would build this into your practice going forward.
