I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Forward in Jun 2020
Interview
Applied online, had an initial chat with a recruiter then was invited for a 1 hour phone screen. The interviewers were both very young & had impressive education credentials but clearly lacked interviewing skills. They were not even trying to hide the fact that they were exchanging messages throughout my interview & one of them didn't even have the decency to turn off their messaging notification noise. It was not only rude but extremely distracting.
The one leading the interview had never done so before (they told me this in the beginning). This person consistently interrupted me and would not allow for any silence. If I tried to think for a moment about my next move, they immediately began talking. At one point, I was very much on the right track but the interviewer was talking so much and so rapidly that I was completely thrown off course & struggled from then on. I tried multiple times to state that I needed a quick second to think & the interviewer would acknowledge this & then continue to ramble.
Perhaps I would have never been able to perfectly & impressively solve this particular screening problem, who knows? However, I can say for a fact I would have done much better without this pair of interviewers.
Great! Focused system design + average leetcode questions. Behavioral interview was very nice and straightforward. Systems design interview include building a scribe tool for doctors to use. Was more a paired session with the interviewer.
It was pretty normal as far as interviews in tech go for entry level engineers. It felt like they were spending more time selling me on their product than on questioning me. Some standard Leetcode style question.
