Finance Major for College Hire Program Interview

      Nov 28, 2010
      Anonymous employee
      McLean, VA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Freddie Mac (McLean, VA) in Nov 2009

      Interview

Fairly easy interview, but still nervous because it's such a big company and a lot of hype. Mostly "fit" questions and - Why do you want to work here? What do we do? Tell me about yourself. I didn't receive any technical or "hard" questions. 2 people interviewed me, 15min for the first one and then 15min with the second one, both 1:1 - I ended up working for the first one that interviewed me, never heard back from the other one. They have this thing called "Freddie Day" where they put you up in a hotel and have you take tours and attend all these presentations. It's really quite impressive, especially attractive for a recent college grad. No GPA questions, but I had a ton of undergrad work experience to talk about. Lots of people interviewing in a big room with tables set up. I really had no idea what position I was interviewing for. The first interview said I would be a good fit in XYZ and the second person said I would best fit in ABC. So it was kind of confusing. I also never had the chance to choose different positions or was offered position A, B, or C. It's basically - College Hire Position - and you fit wherever they need help. HR took forever to call be back, but finally gave me an offer. I had to tell them 3 times that I had already graduated, but their records indicated that I would be graduating in the spring and would start 6 months later. Ended up SCANNING MY DIPLOMA and sending it to HR. HR was a mess. Spoke to about 15 different people throughout the process. Lots of people work part-time so you never deal with the same person. Lots of miscommunication in HR, but they are all really friendly and nice when you meet them. The College Hire program that I was a part of was designed by someone who is no longer with the company (terminated) so the new program might be totally different.
