The actual interview process up to the entire interview was fine. Post interview communication was a mess. The hiring manager reached out and stated they can no longer fill the requisition as it has not been approved by upper management. At that moment, I was the strongest candidate according to the the team and suggested I follow up in a couple of weeks to see if there was any progress. I reached out 1.5 weeks later to the hiring manager and received no answer and now to HR to find out they just extended to another applicant they interviewed after me. If the team was still interviewing more applicants from the beginning, that is what they should have communicated.
