      Management Development Program Interview

      May 26, 2016

      San Diego, CA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at GEICO (San Diego, CA) in May 2016

      Interview

I applied for the program through Geico careers and it took a while to hear back from them. After reviewing my resume and transcripts they scheduled a "phone interview" which wasn't much of an interview, it was just mostly the lady telling me about the Internship, pay, and basically seeing if I would be dedicated to the position. After "passing" that portion, I was scheduled for a real phone interview with a recruiter and she asked questions mostly regarding my leadership experiences ranging from school to clubs on campus to the work place. I then was directed to an online assessment which was mainly a personality test seeing if I'd be a good fit for the company's culture. Again, I did well enough to get a face to face interview. I go to the interview and the first thing they had me do was take an exam online which consisted of a multi-tasking simulation, followed by a typing (wpm) test. After completing that I went back to the employment office where a lady was waiting for me because "she was tracking my progress and knew I would pass" so I was sent on to the next portion of the interview process. This was the hardest part. They sat me in a room and had me learn about a theoretical company for 20mins then they start calling you after the 20mins asking you questions about the company you are essentially working for. The trick is to stay calm and collected. That is honesty what they are testing for the entire time. The lady comes in says I passed and sends me to the waiting room again to meet with a manager to be interviewed. There are usually two managers interviewing but I only got one because the other was out dealing with another project issue. This interview is just for you to make a good impression. They want to hear that you love Geico and its company culture and that you'll value the opportunity. The questions are the same as the phone interview about leadership and "why Geico". I had to wait a week and half to hear back from them but I got an offer which I accepted. Just passed my drug and background check and will be starting next week! Really excited about this opportunity. :) Good luck to the rest of you!

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Why Geico? Leadership experiences? What's your major? Why? Where do you see yourself after school? Where do you want to work in Geico (what department)? Have you had to convince someone to do something they didn't want to? How? Have you been on a team where not everyone pulls their fair share? How did you deal with this? How do you motivate people?

There were multiple interviews to gage logic and reasoning and a traditional interview with HR as well. It was a pretty seamless process overall. I did end up getting the job offer

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at GEICO (New York, NY) in Jul 2022

      Interview

Went through one 30 min and one 60 min phone interview and 2 assessments. Both of the phone interviews were so faceless and it was just question after question. After all that, I wake up to an email saying I wasn't moving on to the last round. Such a Micky mouse organization.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at GEICO (New York, NY) in Mar 2022

      Interview

I applied for the MDP program in the Tristate area at the end of March. As I was prepping for the interview I looked on Glassdoor For tips but from my experience I believe a lot of our experiences will be different depending on where you are applying as my interview timeline seemed to be a little different from some reviews I read. So don’t depend on these reviews to be the exact same interview experience and timeline. One thing i will say is even though the process is long they move through the process fairly Quickly so as long as you are also applying for other opportunities it won’t feel like such a dragged out process. Most of the time you will get feedback the same day you complete a step. I also did not do a pre recorded hire vue video interview like some people did on here. 1) Contacted by recruiter to send transcript and availability for a preliminary phone interview. 2) spoke with recruiter about general overview on program, reviewed experiences on my resume, why geico and touched on brief leadership experiences from past jobs. Also talked about general job behaviors like how many times were you late and how many times did you call Out? I suggest answering these as if you never called out or were late because if you answer otherwise you will be called out for it. 3) first sent behavioral assessment with a virtual Customer service simulation. The next day i was sent the caliper assessment that goes into detail about your personality management style and logical questions. 4) few days later after calipher I was invited to compete a second phone interview a week later where they asked me situational STAR questions and about where else I’m applying and how does geico compare to My other options. This interview seems like they want to get to know about your management style, more in depth information about your leadership experience and how interested you actually are in this position. During this call The interviewer let me know immediately i will be moving on to the next step in the process which is a manager interview. I’m not sure if this is actually the last step or if this will be role play and then a final interview but from the wording it seems like this will be my last step. But my advice will be don’t depend on these reviews to give you the exact timeline on what to expect because it may differ depending on which location and MDP track you’re applying for. Just be honest and be yourself and don’t overthink it and you should do fine. This is my second time applying and I’m doing very well compared to the first time i applied two years ago and the first time i didn’t make it past the initial first phone interview. So if it’s meant to be and you don’t overly prepare you’ll do great! But don’t overthink it :)
