The first round phone interview was about 30 minutes, and it wasn't easy. I had done my research and was ready for a fantastic interview. However, I was thrown off by probing questions regarding other positions. The recruiter asked me what other companies I was looking into and I gave general answers. She then kept digging up for more information. She specifically wanted to know what the names of the companies were, titles, location, and salary ranges. I was very thrown off because she wouldn't give it a rest. I understand that companies would like to continue with serious candidates, but the interview had me feeling like I was helping her with her market research. She also stated that the salary was $44K and kept asking if that would be a problem - again, it felt like she wanted base line comparisons with other firms. When I reached out with follow up questions, I received no response. She responded once I asked for feedback on my interview. She said she wasn't given a detailed report, but reasons could range from lack of leadership experience, knowledge about the company, etc. Those reasons completely shocked me because I have so much experience. Don't get discouraged though, maybe it was just me, but be prepared with the probing questions regarding alternate opportunities. I sincerely think that is what influenced these results.
